Principles of Nature
Elihu Palmer
Description
The Principles of Nature, or A Development of the Moral Causes of Happiness and Misery among the Human Species, is a work by Elihu Palmer, written in 1801. Similar to the writings of Thomas Paine, Palmer's work focuses on God, Deism, and 'revealed religions'. The author became a deist soon after graduating to become a Presbyterian minister. After rejecting the doctrines of the Calvinists, he founded the Deistical Society of New York in 1796. In England, Richard Carlile was fined and jailed for several years after publishing works deemed blasphemous, including 'Principles of Nature'.
This book has 67,529 words, and was originally written in 1801.
